PROBLEMS WITH OLD-STYLE VAPING

Traditional vaping systems can be an ordeal for the new vaper. Open vaping systems have various controls to change the amount of vapor and air flow. There are coils that burn and batteries that need replacing. 

Aside from that it’s rarer to find pre-mixed liquids now.  With European initiatives and the TPD imposing stricter testing requirements for all products, it has become standard that e-liquids are sold in two bottles with the nicotine shot being loaded into nicotine-free larger bottles of flavoured e-liquid. The Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) which sets EU regulations has imposed that nicotine shots are a maximum of 20mg per ml. These are sold in a maximum size of 10ml-sized childproof bottles. Once you have fought your way into both the flavoured liquid bottle and the nicotine shot there’s just the correct maths needed to get your desired concentration of nicotine. It can get complicated, and dangerous if you screw-up.

Stringent TPD rules mean that once every product must be tested, many vape companies choose to supply nicotine-free liquids with acetate, glycerol, and nicotine sold separately. Mixing the right amount of ingredients is essential, and it is not easy. 

This is a messy and complicated business.  Get it wrong, and you could be smoking far more nicotine than you ought to be or think you are. Concentrated nicotine is a highly toxic chemical and so the operation is also dangerous. 

And despite the nicotine being sold in child-proof bottles, accidents have happened. Deaths have been reported so this is not a substance you want in the home if you have little ones. 

Aside from that, regular vapes need refilling frequently. It’s messy and inconvenient to be doing this at work, while traveling, or while you are socializing.

HOW DO POD VAPES WORK?

Pod vapes are very different from the earlier forms of vaping. Old “classic” vaping uses an 'open system' direct-to-lung mechanism, where the user mixes up their own e-liquid before using in their device or mod. 

This method can be complicated, messy, expensive, and potentially dangerous due to inconsistencies in quantities of different ingredients mixed. Further to this, the requirement to replace coils and other hardware components can be difficult for beginners and often requires tooling.
